When I write, I need music. Music puts me in a trance. It helps me tune out the world. It puts me in a headspace to write a character’s mental and emotional state without requiring me to use whatever the writer’s equivalent of method acting is.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve put together a playlist that acts as a tonal North Star for Video Girl as I write. It’s angsty but euphoric, moody but danceable, and includes some of my favorite artists, like 100 gecs, Fever Ray, New Order, John Cale, and SOPHIE.
